Seek Process: Women Weave Scarves + Towels
Last month I was back visiting with Women Weave, a Charitable Trust dedicated to women leading fulfilled lives through the handloom weaving industry. It was founded in 2003 and I first visited with them to begin my partnership with them in 2014. I have always felt aligned with everyone who makes up this group and have great admiration for their dedication and principles.
Each scarf is a work of art, slowly created by hand by women artisans. I once read about how with handloom woven fabric, you are let into the weavers life as there might be a subtle indication of when they paused to tea or to have a chat with their neighbor. There is a life to it and that continues with the wearer.
“In the tapestry of life, we’re all connected. Each one of us is a gift to those around us helping each other be who we are, weaving a perfect picture together. ” ~ Anita Moorjani
The towels feel notably special as they are woven at the tribal area of Dindori, where there is a unique type of weaving done only here. You can usually tell by the braiding along either end. They are incredibly soft and feel like such a luxury to use.
This trip marked my first back to Maheshwar since 2017 and it meant the world to me to only recognize so many weavers but for the weavers to remember me also. They would pat a spot next to them sitting at their loom for me to be next to them and chat (rather briefly as my Hindi is still a work in progress).
Being back at Women Weave is a reminder that I started Seek Collective in order to be close to the processes and people I work with. It’s not just a business when it feels like coming back to a home away from home. What has kept me motivated all these years is how Seek’s success means the success of the people I work with.
